5 out of 5 stars Fantastic   December 9, 2009

I really can't imagine a Christmas without a new Davina DVD, so I was thrilled when I had my 'Pre-Order' email from Amazon last week.
This arrived on Monday, and I have already done it twice. The DVD is divided into 4 1/2 hour workouts, so I have done 2 together each time. Yesterday I did the Aerobics and the Bottom fit, and my legs are really feeling it today. The day before I did the Top Fit and the Kick fit, and that too was brilliant. What I like about this DVD is it offers you the opportunity of a quick workout on a weeknight of 30 minutes, but you can put a couple of the sessions together, and make a longer workout if you have the time. It's this flexibility with Davina's DVDs that makes them work so well - you can mix them up to fit into your own timescale and fitness levels.

I have had a few other fitness DVDs over the years, but the Davina ones are by far my favourite, I really couldn't live without mine!

Well done Davina, Jackie and Mark - please keep up the good work and keep releasing the DVDs at Christmas.
(PS Love your new hair Jackie!)

Fantastic new DVD to add to my Davina collection...great too that it's released before Christmas so I can motivate myself to keep fit throughout all that chocolate and Stilton scoffing.

The DVD consists of four 30 minute self-contained routines with warm-up, main routine, some floor work and some stretching. These are: Aerobic Fit (great dancey aerobic routine that's easy to follow), Top Fit (arm sculpting with weights), Bottom Fit (killer squats and lunges) and Kick Fit (great Tae-Bo inspired kickboxing routine). Not quite sure how they manage it after so many DVDs but Davina, Jackie and Mark always manage to keep things fresh and there are loads of new moves in this DVD so even if you've got the others, this one is still worth adding. Also - the music is fantastic! Great tunes from Freemasons, Calvin Harris, Deadmau5 and loads of others. I don't usually enjoy the 'weights' section of any DVD but the music was so uplifting in this one that I had a great big grin on my face!

There is a Yoga Stretch at the end which is lovely, just a few minutes long and gives you a chance to really cool down from all that hard work. Also there is an 'extra feature' with Davina meeting three girls who do her DVDs regularly, having a chat and getting makeovers. It's a fun and uplifting addition.

In short - buy it!

(Davina fans may also be pleased to note that this DVD doesn't feature the infamous 'skipping' story!)

5 out of 5 stars Another winner - and the music is much better   December 24, 2009

Davina's Superbody DVD has been very dear to my heart for the last year. I bought it last January and used the aerobics section to build up to running in March. For the last eight or nine months I've done the superpump section (arms, main bit and then the superlegs) about two to three times a week, (about 53 mins in total. On the other days I jog around four miles.

This combination works for me because the superpump works you very hard without the pressure on the legs you get from running. This mix, along with healthy eating, means I have lost 2st and managed to keep it off without depriving myself too much - or without getting too many sprains.

I was a bit wary of trying another Davina, especially as the 'pick and mix' approach of Superbody worked so well for me, intensity and length wise. However, the recent bad weather has put paid to the morning run, and a change is as good as a rest, hence Davina Fit.

And, after using Davina Fit for the past week, I have to say she's scored another winner - and cannot agree with other reviewers who have posted that these workouts are not as intense as Superbody (I was a melting wreck after the aerobics section on Davina Fit).

Ideally, another pick and mix would have worked better for me, but there are ways round it for those who want to do more than one session. I tend to use the areobic fit up to the point of stretching, then switch to kick fit and go right the way through. That's about 50 mins in total,an hour if you want to add the yoga section.

On other days I do top fit (with heavier weights than the superpump, because it's upper body only), going through again to around the 25 min mark, just before the stretching, then switch to the whole of bottom fit. About 55 mins.

This works for me. You work hard and I am delighted - I absolutely love most of the music (the exception being the rap stuff on the top fit intervals, but that's just me). I also love the banter between Davina and her trainers.

With Superbody, I've found myself growing very fond of Davina, Mark and Jackie - not surprising, since they're in my living room so often (my husband even joked that Mark was like a friend of the family!) I admire Davina because all her fitness DVDs are excellent and devoid of all the gimmicks you get with the other celeb DVDs, which, in the past, I've given to charity shops after one go.

Davina Fit is carrying on a tradition of professionally put together fitness that does what it says on the tin. Working out for me is part of my life; I can't say I always relish it - but if you have to do it (as I do), you won't go wrong with a Davina!

5 out of 5 stars They pulled it off again!   January 26, 2010

I own all of Davina's fitness DVDs (except for the pregnancy one) and have recently started to use them again after a period of inactivity. My favourite of all her previous workouts is 'Super Body', so I knew that it would be a hard act to follow. 'Davina Fit' is structured slightly differently from 'Super Body', in that they have created 4 separate 30-minute workouts, plus a 10 minute 'Yoga Stretch' section which you are encouraged to do at the end of each workout.

AEROBICS FIT
This is a Jackie workout. I normally prefer the 'toning' sections with the weights (Mark's) but I enjoyed this one; I can see that Jackie put a lot of thought into changing the routines from the previous ones. She's a very inspiring, motivating instructor and I love the fact that she's not a 20-something dancer type smugly telling you what to do. There is a fair bit of jumping around in this section but as usual Jackie gives you an alternative if you want to take it down a notch or two. Followed by abs and cooldown. I love how Jackie has varied the abs section a little bit just enough to make it more interesting. There's only so much you can do to change a crunch exercise, but the little gimmicks of 'pulling on the ropes' for example keeps it interesting.

TOP FIT
Top fit is brilliant, another classic 'Mark' workout. You will need dumbells for this, just like in 'Super Fit'. I used to be a fitness instructor, many years ago, and more of a free weights person than cardio. So Mark made my day with this section by including exercises for all the various upper body muscle groups, including upright row for the upper back (erector spinae), which somehow never seems to get included in these workouts. Hurrah! There are intervals in between to keep your heart rate going, and should you start finding it too easy you could always use a heavier set of dumbells. Followed by some mat exercises (dips, half press-ups and plank raises) and abs.

BOTTOM FIT
Unlike its predecessor 'Super Legs' in 'Super Body', Bottom Fit doesn't require dumbells. So you'll be doing a lot of squats, lunges, broken up by intervals. Sounds easy, eh? Well, it's not, because there are so many repetitions that you will be really struggling to complete the sets. Another great workout from Mark, followed by a short mat routine and abs.

KICK FIT
The kick fit section is excellent. I like Billy Blank's Tae Bo's workouts so normally I find the kickboxing routines in other DVDs a bit lacking. This one, however, is great because it incorporates more kicking than in previous ones. The abs section at the end is varied and once again Jackie adds a few touches such as punching doing the crunches etc, to keep the 'theme' going and also to prevent you from thinking you've seen it all before in the previous section.

YOGA STRETCH
I really like this section. I don't know much about yoga but I have done a few Yoga DVDs (Leah Bracknell and some Ashtanga) and I recognise the poses. Jackie's instruction is very very clear so for once I can follow the moves without finding myself tied into a knot. I really enjoy this addition at the end of the main workouts, it's been a great idea to include it and I can see myself doing it on its own if I'm stressed and just want to have a stretch.

The negatives:
As many people have said in their reviews, the individual workouts do feel a bit short. The fact that they are self-contained with a short warm-up and a short cool-down means that you get to the end of the main section and think 'oh, is that it'? I felt like that at my first attempt, with the Aerobics Fit section. HOWEVER...ALL you need to do to have a longer workout is to combine two sections together, skipping the 'floor' section at the end of the first workout, go to the second workout, do the floor section there and THEN go back to the floor section of workout no.1. Your muscles will have stayed warm, and then once you're on the floor you can do both mat workouts and even double abs. Yes it does sound a bit of a faff but actually it's not, as long as you keep the remote control nearby. I can see why they didn't put in separate warm-ups and cool-down: because PEOPLE WOULD SKIP THEM! And then maybe injure themselves...! So I can't blame them.
Another 'negative' for me is the music. I'm never a fan of the sort of music you hear in workout DVDs but this one is particularly bad. First of all, the Bottom Fit section is RUINED by my least favourite song EVER: "Here come the girls". When the Boots advert is on I have to change the channel, but I can't do that in the middle of a workout. I might have to keep my iPod speakers nearby and mute the TV during this section, because I really can't bear it. The music in all the other section is slightly better but still doesn't seem to really go with the beat of the workout. It's also a bit too quiet in the background.

The positives:
Well, everything else really. I know some people find Davina annoying, (but why do they buy her workouts then?) but I find her presence inspiring. She's funny, 'normal', unpretentious, and clearly has fun working out, unlike a lot of other celebrities who clearly only do it for the DVD and then put the weight on again. Davina goofes around, pulls funny faces, does funny dances and in the meantime distracts you from the fact that you are working your a**e off! The chemistry between her, Jackie and Mark is fantastic: they clearly all enjoy what they are doing. The banter is nice, you really do feel as if you're working out with a bunch of old friends. I like the fact that Jackie and Mark's personalities are allowed to shine through, instead of having the usual drill seargent barking instructions in the background. I hope that the 3 will carry on making workout DVDs for a long time.
Also on a positive note, the fact that each workout is only 30 minutes really does help if you're in a hurry - you know you'll be done in exactly 30 minutes so you still do something (and they are quite intense anyway) and you can always do 2 back to back the next day.
The routines are perfect if you workout in a small space, as they never make you 'travel' around the room too much (something that a lot of DVD programmes don't seem to take into account, even Billy Blanks is guilty of this).
With all of Davina's DVDs, there are no gimmicks. No Tracy Anderson-style 'here comes the science bit' (recycled from Pilates, yoga etc), just no-nonsense cardio and weights, but put together in such a way that you don't get bored, and delivered with a smile by the best team you can ask for. You won't spend the first 6 workouts trying to learn the moves whilst not even breaking into a sweat. You won't learn the most amazing coreographies, instead you will tone up your backside and burn some fat. I know what I'd rather choose.

All in all, although 'Super Body' still remains my favourite, I'd say 'Davina Fit' deserves 5 stars. Buy it and alternate it with Super Body to keep things mixed and you will really see results very soon.

5 out of 5 stars Another gem from Davina!   December 13, 2009

Since first discovering Davina's DVDs back in June this year I've managed to get fit and lose 2 stone and I was thrilled to see she was releasing a new one. For me the format of this one is great - it's split into 4 30 minute workouts and has a 12 minute yoga cool down to tack onto the end. My only complaint with the Superbody Workout (my favourite workout DVD!) was that I found 40 minutes is not quite enough of a workout for me so I would often do both 40 minutes back to back which was quite tough! With this one the cool down contained within the 30 min sections is brief enough (but still effective) that it's just a nice break before launching into a second (or third) section, and the warmup is energetic enough to feel like part of the workout rather than just killing time before the main event.

The aerobics section is a dance style workout but not too difficult to pick up for the uncoordinated of us - just watch out for the "grapevine" move, which first time the camera cuts away from rather unhelpfully! A nice cardio workout that's not too challenging and not too hard on the shins as I find lots of aerobics can be.

Top Fit uses hand weights and works those biceps and triceps to banish the bingo wings forever! There are a couple of minute long intervals which get the heart rate up and ensure you're really burning fat. No added squats and lunges as with the Superbody workout, but combine it with the Bottom Fit and you'll get a great total body workout. It also has a tough floor section and I have to say, I much prefer doing the tricep dips on the floor rather than a chair - much more manageable!

Bottom Fit is probably the hardest section on the DVD and will really really work your thighs. The 30 minutes are pretty much constant squats and lunges and you can really feel it working the bottom and the thighs.

Kick Fit is a kick boxing style workout and my favourite section of the DVD - you'll work up a sweat but it's not so challenging that you'll never face doing it a second time. Lots of punching and kicking and varied enough that it's not too repetitive.

I love the addition of the Yoga Stretch/Cool Down and it really calms you down and relaxs you leaving feeling ready to face anything. It's nicely instructed and simply put together and the perfect close to the workout.

The instruction from Jackie and Mark is good as ever, with constant reminders about form and how things should be feeling. The big improvement on the previous DVDs is the music, which is actually really good and very motivating. Sadly if you are one of those people who find Davina irritating then you may want to avoid as she is quite vocal on this one - personally I love her, she really makes you feel like she is working hard along with you and keeps you going.

In terms of level, I don't feel that it is quite as challenging as the Super Body workout, but this is a plus for me, as it means that 2 or even 3 sections are perfectly manageable run back to back. If you are out of shape and looking for a good home workout, then this is the perfect DVD for you.
